Flow Launcher Themes: Choose a Readable Appearance

Appearance and settings · Published October 30, 2026 · Publisher: flowlauncher.app

At a glance

Flow Launcher themes change the appearance of the search window. Start with a built-in theme, check readability at your normal display scale, and then experiment with custom themes. A theme designed for an older UI framework may need changes before it works with a newer release.

Steps to follow

  1. Open Flow Settings and select a built-in appearance as a working baseline.
  2. Check the search text, result titles, selected-result contrast, and context menus on the monitor you normally use.
  3. When adding a custom theme, confirm that its format and namespace match the installed Flow version.
  4. Keep the baseline theme available and switch back if text becomes unreadable or the search window fails to render.

Check the result

Text and selected results remain readable in both ordinary and high-contrast desktop backgrounds. The theme should not hide important result actions.

Limits and common pitfalls

Release 2.1.0 changed the UI framework. An old ModernWpf namespace is a compatibility clue, not a reason to replace unrelated application binaries.

Make the check repeatable

Judge a theme with real queries, not only an empty search box. Long filenames, multiline subtitles, and a selected item often expose contrast or spacing problems that a decorative preview misses. Keep a copy of any custom XAML before editing it.

Questions and answers

Will every older theme import without modification?

No. Check the release notes and the theme source, especially after a framework transition.
